On Saturday 17th August 2019, Fleet Spurs Football Club visits Dorking Wanderers Football Club at the Meadowbank Stadium Dorking. The stadium is magnificent and the two sides will undoubtedly play out an exciting encounter at 15:00 on Saturday.
FSFC will arrive with confidence high after back to back wins in the league and nine goals scored in two games. Fleet have beaten Epsom and Ewell 3-5 and Godalming Town 4-2. However, the team is not complacent and this week will actually see the strengthening of the squad as a smattering of key players return to the fold. Dorking have had mixed fortunes so far this year with a win on Saturday away against Ash United and an opening week loss to a strong British Airways side.
Historically, Fleet v Dorking games have featured lots of goals. Dorking picked up all 6 points in the league v Fleet last season with a 2-1 win at Kennels Lane and a 6-2 romp at Meadowbank during a midweek fixture in spring 2019. If so much had not changed, this would make Dorking firm favourites for Saturday's encounter. However, a great deal has changed and Fleet Spurs is a new-look side and this fixture will be a useful barometer as to how strong the Fleet team actually is.
Joint Manager Alan Reed said "The league season could not have started much better. We have six points and, most importantly, we have confidence. We know Dorking will be a tough test away from home but we will be looking for 3 points on Saturday."
Fleet's win over Godalming Town featured an impressive hat-trick from striker Andre Smith. Smith said the following "The Godalming game is in the past. We won't be dwelling on that for one second this weekend. My attention is on Dorking and ensuring that we keep winning." Smith went on to say "Dorking are a strong outfit with a wonderful stadium. Every single one of us is looking forward to showing what we can do at Meadowbank."
Saturday will also see the return of Joint Manager Adrian Wilson who has missed the start of the campaign due to a family holiday in Tenerife. Wilson said "I cannot wait for Saturday. We will be putting everything we have into our performance." Wilson continued "Every single player at Fleet has someone challenging them for their place. What our two wins have shown so far is that the squad is strong and that every player is committed to making the starting eleven. I have no doubt this will continue on Saturday."
Kick-off is 15:00. See you on Saturday!
