Our first of three Home matches in December start with a visit from The Robins - very appropriate for this time of year.
Downton sit 9th in Division 1 with 32 points, 9 wins and 5 draws, scoring an average of 2.3 goals a game while letting in an average of 1.6 goals a game. The Robins last 3 results are:
The majority of Downton’s league games have been at home, with many positive results but they are not so steady on their travels, with one away win in the last 5 away games.
Our visitors goals are shared around the team with 15 different players on the scoresheet. However, two payers stand out, Thomas Moseley has recorded 9 goals in 8 starts, but has not features for the men-in-red recently. The batten has been picked up by Samuel Howe who has scored 11 goals in 19 games, including scoring in the Robins last 4 games.
Downton will go into this game with some degree confidence but will surely have an eye on an important Wessex League Quarter Final Cup match away at Premier Division side Fareham Town next Tuesday.
Spurs will be looking to build on a recent run of good form, we sit 13th in the “Recent Form’ table (last 6 games) just 2 places below Downton on 11th, to try and improve our overall league position. Particularly with a run of home games to help, a rare occurrence so far this season.
Our Captain Tom White continues to build on his own impressive scoring record, 13 goals in18 games, but others in the team need to challenge themselves to help with the cause and convert some of the many chances created if we are going to move up the table.
This should be an interesting and entertaining game, with Downton in form at home but less so away and Spurs looking to call on players returning from injury and a new signing or two. Fingers crossed.
