In league game 30 of 36 we welcome Newport from the Isle of Wight to Kennels Lane.
The Port sit 4th in Division 1 with 64 points, 7 points above their nearest playoff rival, and still within a shout of automatic promotion back to the Premier Division as Division 1 Champions.
As you would expect from their league position, our visitors are on a good run of recent form with just one loss in their last 6 games. Free scoring ‘Port have 4 players with double digit league goals scored led by Jordon Browne with 21 goals in 26 games.
Spurs, for the first time this season, will be searching for a hat trick of wins. The Fleet side remain in 18th place despite the last 2 wins but we have moved within 2 points of Fawley AFC in 17th with a game in hand on our survival rival. Fawley play 19th place Totton & Eling, who are 6 points below Spurs, which brings up a possible better result for Spurs for a team below them in the league to win a game, bearing in mind we have to travel to Totton later in the season. However, we must be careful what we wish for!
Welcomed back this week Captain and top scorer (16 league goals in 21 games) Tom White who missed last week’s 3-0 home win will give the managers’ a selection decision to make. In our last match, Tom’s younger brother Harry started the scoring against Verwood Town with the lively Jonny Miller’s brace sealing the win.
Including today’s game, Spurs have 7 fixtures to try and secure Step 6 football next season, with some tough games but also winnable games plus 5 of the games played at home - it’s on.
